• Welcome to Oh My Gulaay

    Hai guys,

I'm Jackie, the Gulaay of all Gulaays. <JustKidding> I guess I should start off explaining what the heck does that title mean. For my non-Tagalog viewers, the title OH MY GULAAY is a play off of the phrase OH MY GOSH, but using the Tagalog word Gulay <TheOriginalSpelling> meaning vegetables. When you have an Ahhhhh moment, it just becomes OMGULAAY.

    OMGULAAY of the Week

The Carbonara Pizza from Porta in Jersey City, NJ

Last weekend, I found myself wandering down Newark Ave in Downtown Jersey City with Justin <AKAbunny>. Like many growing populated cities on the outskirts of the Big Apple <NYC>, such as Jersey City and Hoboken, there are streets filled with so many restaurants and little cafes that are too hard to pass up an IG moment. Yes, I'm that person in the restaurant with my phone taking pictures and doing it for the Gram.
Bunny had given me the very difficult task of picking a place to eat. <Cue Dramatic Sound Effects> I DEFINITELY know I am not the only one who freaks out about picking a place to eat. It's difficult for me because I seem to crave everything from burgers to pumpkin gelato all the damn time. Luckily for me, we've been to majority of the restaurants down Newark Ave, except for the pizza joints. As a Jersey Girl, there is only one kind of pizza that with satisfy me and that is THIN CRUST oven baked. The choice was between Two Boots or Porta; of course I went with the restaurant with the most rustic  look and amazing aromas, PORTA!

The restaurant was only serving the"In Between" menu meaning only pizza and salads as they prepare to transition into the dinner mode, which didn't change my mind too much about what I wanted. So, Justin ordered the Shrimp Scampi Pizza and I ordered the Carbonara Pizza. As soon as the pizza came out, my jaw dropped. The crust was thin, crispy on the outside, but doughy inside; just how I love it. What made it more amazing was the roasted egg in the middle! I love eggs on anything, and I wouldn't have thought about putting egg on a pizza. The only downside to the pizza was that it was a bit salty when you take a bite of just the Pancetta, but besides that minor dismay, the food was amazing paired with great beers. Carbonara, until we meet again I'll be thinking about you.

Every week I will be trying to post a new OMGULAAY of the WEEK, along with recipes and other food tidbits. Thanks for stopping by, see you next week!
