• Meet the Gulaay

    I AM..
Jackie, the face behind the Gulaay.
    23 years old years
    Filipino born, Jersey raised.
One out of Six Kids, Four Dogs and a Hamster.
Love of my Life, Justin <Bunny>.
    Newly graduated from Nursing School.
    Food Fanatic.
Where can I begin with my love for food...
I can tell you this; I wasn't a happy camper when it came to eating when I was a kid. Partly because the rule in a Filipino household is to finish all your food on your plate, regardless of how full you may be. So, I did the "I need to go to the bathroom" trick, along with secretly feed it to the dog under the table.
As I gotten older, I became more independent of what foods I will eat and foods I will definitely not eat <GOAT>. I have to admit the main types of food that I would eat/ have some knowledge about when I was in high school were:
    Filipino
    Italian
    Spanish
Church food <I think it counts as a category>
    Japanese
    Chinese
    Indian
    Southern
Yeah, I know... Not a big variety, but I kinda owe my expanse of food choices to the boyfriend because seriously my eyes popped out of their sockets when I tried Korean BBQ for the first time. I will forever be thankful for Kimchee fried rice and Mango Mochi. Oh, just thinking about it makes me salivate. Mind you, that was about 5 years ago.
In my household, I consider my parents as the epitome of Filipino food. I'm just saying that yes, the food that you can get at the Filipino food store is good, but not as good as my Mama or Papa's stuff. It'll make you go insane! I have really high expectations of Filipino food.
    My favorite all time foods:
Fresh Lumpia/ Lumpia Shanghai/ Summer Rolls/ Spicy Tuna Roll
    Pho
    Kimchee Fried Rice
Eggs and Rice; Eggs with ANYTHING
    Bacon with ANYTHING
    Kale Chips
    BBQ
Tea Sandwiches made by the Church ladies
    Steak
All Filipino Foods, with the exception of anything containing Goat, bile and liver
Food has become my safe zone away from the chaos and has allowed me to be curious and explore. Curiosity is dead.
It is a way for me to show who I am. To be honest, I wanted to be a culinary chef and go to Culinary School in Tuscany, but realism drops a bomb on your front door. I applaud all those Chefs, Culinary Masters and upcoming Imagineers; some day I'll learn the master tricks.

Thanks for getting to know me! You'll learn more and more!
